All women should be able to take their own vaginal swab for HPV testing under the cervical cancer screening program, the Medical Services Advisory Committee has agreed.

The committee has recommended changes to two Medicare items for HPV testing to allow self-swabbing for all people with a cervix from the age of 24 years and nine months, not just for those who are under-screened.
