Lung Cancer Screening Program rebates too low, radiologists warn

Radiologists say the proposed Medicare rebates for the upcoming National Lung Cancer Screening Program, which will be mandatory to bulk-bill, are around $100 too low.
The program starting in July 2025 will involve GPs identifying eligible patients based on smoking history and referring them for low-dose chest CT.
The government is suggesting that these CT scans attract a rebate equal to an existing bulk-billed chest CT item: $308.
However, the Australian Diagnostic Imaging Association says that CT scan rebates for the screening program should top $400.
