‘Medicine taught me patience, art taught me to be bold’: radiologist’s path to the Archibald Prize

The radiologist says being named as a finalist for the prestigious prize was something she'd secretly dreamed of since she was a child.

For Dr Lucila Zentner, giving up art to pursue her medical career was never an option.

Over the past decade, the Sydney-based doctor has carved out a dual career as a radiologist and a professional artist.

Recently, her portrait of artist Wendy Sharpe was selected from 904 entries as a finalist in the Archibald Prize — marking further public recognition of a flourishing art career.

“I’ve previously won an art competition and had over 20 paintings as finalists in national prizes, but being a finalist in the Archibald is very special to me,” says Dr Zentner, a radiologist with Lumus Imaging at Northern Beaches Hospital.
