MediSecure enters liquidation just weeks after GP prescription data stolen

Prescription software company MediSecure has gone into liquidation less than a month after being hit by a ransomware cyber attack, with affected doctors still unsure what personal information was stolen.
The company, which stopped processing PBS scripts last year after the Federal Government awarded a sole provider contract to long-time rival eRX, was still processing private scripts when it was hacked on 16 May.
At the time MediSecure revealed “limited health information” relating to prescriptions up until November 2023 had been stolen, with some data published on the dark web.
In addition, prescribers’ personal information was also hacked in the breach, which the company blamed on a third-party vendor.
