Having saved lives by changing minds once, Professor Lidia Morawska now wants to do it again.
Five years after the COVID-19 pandemic began, Professor Lidia Morawska is no longer wearing a mask or respirator when she heads out — at least not usually.
As the physicist who persuaded the WHO to recognise COVID-19 as an airborne disease, she does, however, carry a CO2 air quality monitor.
“CO2 is a proxy for infection transmission and a proxy for ventilation,” Professor Morawska, an expert on airborne infection transmission mechanisms, says.
“When there is not enough ventilation in a space, the concentration of carbon dioxide increases, and that also indicates there is not enough ventilation for pathogens to get outdoors.
