Meet the GP registrar who led junior doctors to victory in $230 million class action

“I didn’t know much about class actions; all I knew was it was a big deal.”

Dr Amireh Fakhouri did not expect to lead a junior doctor class action against NSW Health when her union first emailed about allegations of wage theft more than four years ago.

“It just so happened that I was one of the doctors who had the most written evidence, such as emails and text messages, to prove that I had worked unpaid overtime,” Dr Fakhouri told AusDoc.

“But I did have concerns in terms of my career path, the future, the repercussions of being involved with this.”
