Meet the surgeon whose ‘absurd’ hobby turned into a successful business

A Melbourne assistant surgeon who designs and sells merchandise for a fictional AFL footy team says his unique venture has enabled him to scale back on his surgical work.
It all started during the pandemic, when elective surgeries had been placed on hold, and Dr Ken Sakata had been deployed to COVID-19 testing and vaccination.
“The work was stressful and I was losing my mind,” he explained on social media.
Dr Sakata’s way of dealing with the stress was to create a new persona on Twitter — that of a 35-year-old man about to quit his job to become an Australian Rules footballer.
