‘Members need to know how this organisation is run’: RACP legal battle begins

Both sides have accused the other of bullying.

The lawyer for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians’ president-elect has told a Fair Work Commission hearing she plans to expose the college’s “dysfunction” and its failure to stop alleged bullying.

President-elect Dr Sharmila Chandran initiated the proceedings against college president Professor Jennifer Martin and her alleged “allies”: college CEO Steffen Faurby and Dr John O’Donnell, the man behind an attempt to force out Dr Chandran.

It is alleged that Professor Martin and her supporters have sought to put “intense” pressure on Dr Chandran to block her from the presidency because she opposed constitutional changes that Professor Martin and Mr Faurby supported.

Dr Chandran’s lawyer, Dr Nadia Stojanova (PhD), claimed at Tuesday’s hearing that dysfunction at the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) had contributed to a failure to protect Dr Chandran and several college employees from alleged bullying.
