Men with CV risk factors face brain decline a decade before women: UK Biobank study

The findings suggest that the window for aggressive treatment differs between men and women.

Obesity and elevated cardiovascular risk are linked to brain volume reductions in men that occur a decade earlier than in women, researchers say.

The Imperial College London researchers said their findings suggested a window of opportunity to aggressively combat cardiovascular disease risk in men was between the ages of 55-64.

For women it was 65-74.

Their research used data from 34,000 participants (mean age 64) in the UK Biobank study who had abdominal and brain scans.
