Menopause conference under fire over GP’s controversial high-dose oestrogen treatments

A medical conference for doctors is facing criticism from a leading menopause clinician for its controversial headline speaker accused of promoting ‘experimental’ doses of oestrogen to women.
Dr Louise Newson is a GP in the UK who is credited with starting the country’s so-called ‘menopause revolution’.
With a large social media following and regular TV appearances, she is one of the main presenters at a Sydney medical conference for doctors called So Hot Right Now: Re-defining Menopause.
Last September, a BBC investigation alleged several of the women treated at her clinics were being prescribed oestrogen far above the limits recommended by the UK’s medicines regulators, without being told it was off-label or warned of potential risks.
