Mental illness in doctors still a taboo subject

Doctors with mental health issues are concealing their illness from their employers and continuing to work when unwell, according to two reports from the UK’s British Medical Association (BMA).
The reports, which were commissioned as part of an initiative to tackle the problem of doctors’ mental health, aimed to provide a better understanding of the extent of the problem.
The first, an online survey of more than 4300 doctors and medical students, showed 80% were at high or very high risk of burnout.
Junior doctors were most at risk (91%), closely followed by GP practice owners (88%).
