MHT patches escape PBS chopping block

A number of menopausal hormone therapy products have escaped removal from the PBS after a campaign by women’s health advocates.
It comes after drug company Sandoz, which supplies the only combined transdermal menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) patches in Australia, reached a deal with health officials last week, ending its threat to pull them from the PBS.
However, the two patches — Estradot (oestradiol) and Estalis (oestradiol and norethisterone) — are set to become more expensive on 1 October.
This would “reflect the rising costs of manufacturing”, Sandoz said.
