‘Milking cows is really therapeutic’: A city GP’s first nine months in an outback town

After a decade without a permanent GP, Julia Creek found Dr Adam Louws.
The former inner Brisbane GP moved 1600km to the tiny Queensland town in March and says he could “easily” stick around.
And while Julia Creek’s GP search had made national headlines by offering $500,000 per annum, Dr Louws says money is “not the big drawcard”.
“You can offer a million dollars and still not get anyone taking the job, you’ve got to help them see that Julia Creek is a beautiful town,” he says.
