A fifth wave of COVID-19 infections is looming this winter, with Australians being urged to get their booster and flu vaccines.

The warning comes with statistics showing that some 16.5 million Australians have not received a COVID-19 booster shot in more than six months.

An average of 5517 infections were being recorded per day as of May 30, more than double the average daily rate in March.

Influenza cases are also on the rise with 17,277 recorded between May 15 and 28, again more than double the previous fortnight’s total.
