Minister urges med student to ‘follow your GP dreams’ as Q+A tackles general practice crisis

High-profile GP Dr Mukesh Haikerwal and Minister for Health and Aged Care Mark Butler have attempted to tackle the GP crisis live on air as part of ABC TV’s Q+A.
However, it was Melbourne medical student Isabel Lee who cut to the core of the problem, as she questioned the minister from the studio audience.
“I personally am interested in general practice, but every time I tell someone that I am, I get very strange looks,” the Monash University student said.
“What are some ways you are planning on increasing retention in the GP pathway?”
