More than 1000 GP clinics to get Pfizer vax next month

An emergency National Cabinet meeting has heard that 1300 practices will receive the vaccine in the first three weeks of July

Hundreds of GP practices will be able to provide the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine from early July as part of a renewed Federal Government push to offer all Australians a vaccine by the end of the year.

In the first three weeks of July, 1300 general practices will receive Pfizer doses to boost the number of sites administering the vaccine, national rollout officials said following the emergency meeting of the National Cabinet on Monday.

Vaccines Operation Centre co-ordinator Commodore Eric Young said 500 general practices will receive Pfizer doses from the first week in July, followed by another 500 in the week of 12 July and 300 in the week of 19 July.

He was speaking to reporters after the emergency meeting of premiers and chief ministers chaired by Prime Minister Scott Morrison to discuss the rollout that hit another roadblock last week when medical advice changed on age limits for the AstraZeneca vaccine.
