More than 9000 doctors faced complaints last year, AHPRA says
AHPRA and other health watchdogs fielded 22,658 complaints last financial year, more than half of them about doctors.
The watchdog’s annual report showed that it received 7562 complaints about 5217 doctors in 2024/25, a figure that rose to 12,744 complaints about 9087 doctors when including complaints to co-regulators in NSW and Queensland.
CEO Justin Untersteiner wrote in the report that AHPRA was focused on dealing with complaints faster to reduce the mental distress they caused.
Despite record numbers of complaints, 81.1% of finalised complaints took less than six months, the report said — compared with less than 80% the year before.
