The more time patients spend with GPs, the greater their weight loss

Adults with obesity lost twice as much on a GP-led weight management program compared to going it alone, shows Australian and UK research
Dr Liz Sturgiss.

The more contact a patients with obesity has with their GP the more weight they lose, according to a new study.

The UK and Australian research found that patients who received weight loss advice from GPs and their teams lost twice as much a year compared with those going it alone.

And those who lost the most weight had at least 12 contacts between the patient and their GP practice.

The advice didn’t always have to be delivered by a GP, it could be done by a nurse or health coach, the authors said.
