70,000 doctors still to renew registration using new portal but don’t panic, says AHPRA
AHPRA is staying calm, saying it is confident doctors are on track with their medical registration despite reports of mass frustration with the new registration portal.
An AusDoc survey found more than half of the 1100 doctors who responded had taken two hours or longer getting through the revamped system, which demands multifactor authentication for the first time.
But an AHPRA spokesperson said that as of 5 September some 72% of doctors due for renewal this year had successfully set up their portal and connected a multifactor authentication app.
And about 42% of doctors — some 56,000 in total — had renewed already, leaving around 70,000 to go.
