MP thanks surgeon whose quick thinking saved her life
As Labor MP Ali France delivered her maiden speech in Parliament last week, two surgeons watched on from the public gallery.
During her parliamentary debut, the newly minted MP warmly thanked the pair – the trauma surgeon who saved her life, Professor Martin Wullschleger and the orthopaedic surgeon who helped her to walk again, Dr Munjed al Muderis.
Without both, Ms Ali says she would not have been standing there in the parliament, nor had the chance to unseat the then Coalition leader Peter Dutton in May’s federal election.
Ms France told the Lower House about the day her life changed in 2011, when an out-of-control car pinned her against another vehicle, crushing her left leg.
