The urgent need to keep Australia’s 7000 GP clinics running remains key to containing both the virus and ensuring the wider health system can function under the immense pressure expected in the coming days and weeks.

But a number of doctors are already warning that a stark fall in revenue, triggered by a collapse in attendances, along with anxiety about the lack of resources and equipment to deal with the virus, could force them to close.
