N95 mask triggers anaphylactic reaction in nurse: Australian case study

The response was tracked to a pair of isocyanates, used as hardening agents during manufacturing.

Wearing an N95 mask for hours is never fun.  

But spare a thought for this Australian nurse whose respirator triggered an anaphylactic response.  

One hour after she donned her gloves, gown and respirator, she developed pruritus increasing over her face and ears, according to her doctors at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth. 

Her medical history included mild asthma, self-reported mild contact dermatitis from nickel in jewellery and mild cough after eating peanuts.
