A top neurologist is to run as an independent candidate in the next federal election to try and unseat Treasurer Josh Frydenberg.

Director of neurology at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Dr Monique Ryan, says she makes decisions every day to help Australian children and wants the government to do the same, especially on climate change.

Dr Ryan is stepping down from her hospital position to run as an independent in the inner Melbourne seat of Kooyong in 2022.

Mr Frydenberg currently holds a 5% margin after a more than 8% swing against him at the 2019 election.
