A neurosurgeon has been suspended without pay following misconduct allegations accusing him of denigrating NSW Health in social media posts and in emails to the hospital’s medical staff council.

Dr Raoul Pope works as a VMO at Concord Repatriation General Hospital in Sydney, which has witnessed long-running conflict between senior managers and clinical staff.

The allegations of misconduct, which run to nearly 20 pages, were sent to him by Sydney Local Health District in an email marked “OFFICIAL: Sensitive — Personal”.

Seen by AusDoc, many of the claims focus on a series of emails to fellow members of the medical staff council (MSC) back in March, where he discussed the fallout of a state government special commission which highlighted concerns around governance, funding and bullying at the hospital.
