AHPRA has new powers to delete information from the public medical register if it could put doctors’ families or colleagues’ safety at risk.

It follows changes to the National Law agreed by health ministers earlier this year.

There are also new rules on doctors using alternative names to those on the medical register and a revamped process when doctors renew their registration after suspension.

The national boards already have the ability to remove information — such as practice addresses — from the public register should it put the practitioner’s health or safety at serious risk.
