New medical school graduates offered six-month deferment on AHPRA rego fees
The regulator says new graduates don't have much money after university and placements.
Newly graduated medical students will be allowed to defer paying their registration fees for up to six months under a new AHPRA pilot program.
The regulator said some students do not have much money in savings after university and placements, and its goal is to let new graduates establish an income before they have to pay for their provisional registration.
Under the pilot, medical graduates applying for provisional registration for the first time will be able to postpone paying their $543 registration fee until 31 March 2027, although the $332 application fee will still be payable up-front.
The option will be available to graduates who request a deferral before they apply between 9 October and 4 January.
