New medical school will ‘strengthen Medicare’, says Mark Butler

The Federal Government has announced a new GP-focused medical school, to offer 48 places a year starting in 2027.
The government said on Monday that the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) was launching an undergraduate medical degree, subject to Australian Medical Council accreditation.
“More medical students studying and graduating in Brisbane and Queensland means more doctors living and working in the state and particularly in general practice,” said Minister for Health and Aged Care Mark Butler.
“We are strengthening Medicare by building our future medical workforce through more training places for medical students at university.”
