No Australian neurosurgeon would provide a reference for Dr Charlie Teo at his disciplinary hearing, lawyers say, as they wrap up their case against the celebrity doctor.
Dr Teo fronted the final day of the hearing on Wednesday, which will decide on possible sanctions or registration conditions over the neurosurgeon’s treatment of two women who died post-surgery.
He is accused of failing to inform the patients and their families of the risks and acting unprofessionally, including slapping a patient in the face to rouse her.
A Professional Standard Committee was shown letters of support for Dr Teo from 10 neurosurgeons working overseas and 47 patients and families, along with three emails and one letter from other Australian doctors.
