‘No doctor need worry’: Hunt says no legal risk from ATAGI vaccine update
GPs are not running legal risks by administering AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine to patients under 50 provided they get informed consent, the Federal Government has declared.
A debate on the medicolegal implications of any major adverse event surfaced following ATAGI’s declaration that there was a “likely causal link” between the vaccine and rare, unusual blood clots dubbed thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS).
The expert advisory body is recommending people under 50 should “preferably” be offered the Pfizer vaccine instead.
GPs are being sent suggested consent protocols by the Federal Government that warn patients about the “very rare” side effect and provide information on TTS.
