No tripled bulk-billing incentives for level A consults, health officials say

For longer video telehealth items, the incentives will be restricted to patients who register via MyMedicare.

Bulk-billed level A consults will only attract the existing bulk-billing incentives — $6.60 in metropolitan areas — even after new incentives worth three times as much are introduced in November.

While hinted at in the federal budget, health officials have now confirmed that level A consults will be excluded, while revealing new details on the MyMedicare patient enrolment scheme.

Longer video consultations — MBS items 91801 and 91802, equivalent to a level C and level D consult â€” will only attract the higher bulk-billing incentives if a patient is registered with the practice under MyMedicare.

The new level E consultation item announced in the budget will be accompanied by a video telehealth equivalent, but again, higher bulk-billing incentives will only be offered for enrolled patients for the new video item.
