Nobel winner Professor Barry Marshall fined over parking fracas

Nobel laureate Professor Barry Marshall has admitted driving through a boom gate after becoming agitated and frustrated with car park attendants near a building named in his honour.
Professor Marshall was due to face trial in Perth Magistrates Court on Monday over the incident at the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre complex in Nedland that took place in April last year.
The centre is not far from the Marshall Centre for Infectious Diseases Research and Training.
Instead, the professor of medicine and microbiology entered a guilty plea to one count of criminal damage while the second count was discontinued.
