November MBS news — bulk-billing incentives, LARC rebates and mental health care overhaul

A guide to the most important MBS items for general practice at a glance.

AusDoc’s MBS Quick Guide for November is now available and includes bulk-billing incentive rebates now available to all Medicare card holders, as well as updated rebates for long-acting contraceptive items.

From 1 November, bulk-billing incentive items are available to all Medicare card holders who are bulk-billed for attendance, chronic and complex disease management, mental health and eating disorder management and health assessment items. The bulk-billing Practice Incentives Program will also come into effect but is not included on the guide (see resources below for more information).

The rebates for long-acting reversible contraceptive items have been increased and an additional item (35501) added for when these services are bulk-billed, providing an additional loading fee of 40% of the applicable rebate.

Another big shake-up for November is amended patient eligibility for preparation of a mental health care plan (MHCP) and the removal of items for GP mental health care consultations and MHCP reviews.
