NT follows Queensland with massive pharmacist S4 prescribing trial

The NT only has 41 pharmacies, the AMA NT president points out.
Associate Professor Robert Parker.

NT pharmacists will treat 23 conditions — including school sores, otitis media, asthma and COPD — in another major pharmacist prescribing pilot.

The recently elected Country Liberal Party government is yet to detail whether pharmacists will diagnose all of these conditions, initiate S4 medicines or extend GP scripts.

But since 28 October, it has let NT pharmacists diagnose UTIs and prescribe nitrofurantoin or cefalexin.

NT Minister for Health Steve Edgington said pharmacist prescribing would ease pressure on doctors.
