Nurse beaten unconscious by ED patient gets $1.8 million compensation

Security staff were absent when RN Livleen Chopra pressed her duress alarm as the patient grabbed her hair.

A nurse who was beaten unconscious by a patient with dementia will receive $1.8 million in compensation, after a court found the hospital should not have left her alone with a high-risk patient.

The patient grabbed RN Livleen Chopra by her hair and bashed her head against the wall and floor in a three-minute assault at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital in Sydney on Christmas Day 2017, according to the NSW District Court.
