A nurse attempted to liven up her work Christmas party with a round of green whistles after getting an unwitting GP to sign off on the medication order, in a cautionary tale shared by Avant. 

The practice manager uncovered the nurse’s party trick as she scrolled through Facebook and landed on the receptionist’s page where photos of the event had been shared. 

They showed practice staff inhaling from methoxyflurane inhalers at the end-of-year party.

“Her heart sank even further when she recognised the medication label — the green whistles had been prescribed by a doctor at her practice,” wrote Gail Wang, a risk adviser with Avant’s Member Advisory Services team.
