Matt Perillo-Phipps baked, mixed and iced his way into the finale of amateur TV baking competition, The Great Australian Bake Off.

Each week, over nine episodes, he had to complete three bakes to avoid elimination: a signature dish, a technical challenge and a showstopper.

His nursing background proved inspirational, with Matt creating ‘blood pack’ lamingtons with a blood-like filling, an ambulance cake, and a Linzer torte inspired by Florence Nightingale’s lamp.

While he brought his A-game to Tuesday night’s finale, he had to settle for being one of two runners-up to winner Pamela Buchanan.
