Nurse scripts would be funded under PBS in new laws
Scripts written by nurse prescribers would be funded on the PBS under draft laws proposed by the Federal Government.
It follows the agreement struck by federal, state and territory health ministers in December 2024 to enable RNs to apply for an “endorsement for scheduled medicines”.
This allows them to prescribe S4 and S8 drugs under a written agreement with a doctor or nurse practitioner.
Prescribing RNs will need three years’ full-time experience and a postgraduate qualification that involves a six-month clinical mentorship before they can prescribe.
