Nurse who stole 25 face masks during pandemic ‘not fit to practise’: tribunal

The WA nurse coerced three nursing students into helping her steal PPE when there was a national shortage

An experienced nurse supervisor has been rapped for manipulating nursing students into helping her steal 25 face masks from hospital stocks during the pandemic.

Amid a national shortage of PPE, the nurse also took 10 alcohol wipes and a handful of rubber gloves to take with her on an overseas trip, a tribunal heard.

In early March 2020, the nurse took the students aside in the hospital dining room and told them she was about to head off on a trip to England.

She explained the trip would entail travel to places that were high-risk for COVID-19, that she was “worried for her health” and needed the students to “take masks from the wards for her”, the WA State and Administrative Tribunal said.
