Obstetricians raise alarm on the boom in pregnancy ‘reassurance’ ultrasound clinics

Obstetricians say the rise of unregulated ‘reassurance clinics’ offering ultrasounds to pregnant women risk missed ectopic pregnancies and late-term terminations.
The clinics promise reassurance for women on the health of their pregnancy, providing 3D and 4D colour pictures of the baby at any trimester.
But they do not require a GP referral, they do not generate clinical reports, and parents-to-be do not know if the providers have the training to produce reliable ultrasounds.
The claims come from RANZCOG president elect Dr Nisha Khot.
