An obstetrician says the birth last week of naturally conceived identical quadruplets was a “one in 15 million” event and probably an Australian first.

Dr Alexa Bendall said mother Jenitar Na’amoan faced a very high-risk pregnancy at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, delivering her babies via C-section at just over 28 weeks.

“We don’t think it has ever happened in Australia,” said Dr Bendall, an O&G and maternal–fetal specialist.

“There may have been a couple of cases elsewhere in the world, and when I say a couple — literally two.”
