Only connect: Dr Caitlin Sum says she’s brought 2000 GPs and specialists together
It was a 'nerve-racking' start to the group as Dr Caitlin Sum worried no-one would want to join her referral network.
When Dr Caitlin Sum set up a social media group for GPs and other specialists to share referral advice and waiting times, she would have been thrilled if 100 people had joined.
She originally created the Adelaide GP Referral Network Facebook group in 2020 to bridge the gap between GPs needing to refer a patient to a specialist and the doctors available.
Four years on, around 2000 doctors across South Australia have signed up.
“When I became a GP registrar, I had not anticipated how much time it would take to match a patient to a specialist,” she said.
