Doctors are being advised not to prescribe certain combined oral contraceptives in the wake of long-term shortages that have blindsided GPs and left many patients distressed.

Two brands of ethinyloestradiol/norethisterone combination pills (Norimin and Brevinor), often chosen for non-contraceptive benefits such as managing acne or heavy bleeding, will be out-of-stock until December.
