Over 600 medicinal cannabis adverse events are the tip of the iceberg, top psych says
A leading psychiatrist has warned that the hundreds of medicinal cannabis adverse events reported to the TGA represent a “vast under-reporting” of side effects.
Professor Brett Emmerson was commenting on TGA figures showing there had been over 600 adverse event reports made about the unregistered products between July 2022 and June this year.
Over 50 related to psychosis disorder, while 14 referred to suicidal ideation or behaviour, and over 30 included paranoia, according to the data released under freedom of information.
There were also reports relating to schizophrenia, homicidal ideation and bipolar disorder.
