Presymptomatic transmission of monkeypox occurring in more than half of UK cases: study

More than half of monkeypox transmission in the UK occurred in the pre-symptomatic phase, researchers say.
Transmission was seen up to four days before symptoms started, with researchers from the UK Health Security Agency estimating that 53% of transmission occurred during this phase.
As of 31 October, there were more than 3500 confirmed cases of monkeypox across the UK.
They used contact tracing data for more than 2,700 people who tested positive for the monkeypox virus between 6 May and 1 August this year.
