Owner of after-hours service used GP’s provider number in $465,000 Medicare fraud

Abdulkadir Ibrahim fraudulently obtained Dr Halima Satari's provider number after she interviewed for a job with his deputising service.

A would-be after-hours entrepreneur who defrauded nearly $465,000 from Medicare using the provider number of a GP who turned down his job offer has been jailed for three years.

Abdulkadir Ibrahim submitted 3288 false bulk-bill claims in the name of GP Dr Halima Satari when, after a series of interviews, she decided against working for his fledgling deputising service.

However he managed to get her provider number for his struggling business, GP at Home, because she had included it in her application form.

He subsequently lodged thousands of successful claims between November 2016 and August 2018 based on patients’ Medicare numbers and their birthdays even though the names and addresses were faked.
