Pap smears, fluoride and fake medics — top doctors speak out on social media threat to medicine

Four leading medical minds have been assembled in a television segment.

Leading doctors have issued a united call to action on relentless medical misinformation — from AI-generated doctors to advice that women should avoid cervical cancer screening tests.

Four doctors, including AMA president Dr Danielle McMullen and RACGP president Dr Michael Wright, assembled on a Seven News segment about social media content designed to scam, harm or mislead patients.

They were joined by RACP president Professor Jennifer Martin and paediatric infectious diseases expert Dr Linny Phuong to watch examples of the dangerous content together.

This included a video posted by Barbara O’Neill, who describes herself as the “world’s greatest health influencer in this decade” and is currently advertising a weeklong health retreat in Thailand costing between $4729 and $10,626.
