Paracetamol in pregnancy linked to ‘very increased risk of autism’, Trump tells doctors
The Trump administration says it is writing to all US doctors, telling them that paracetamol use in pregnancy is strongly linked to autism.
The White House has repeatedly flagged its concerns about what it calls an autism epidemic sweeping the US.
On Tuesday, US president Donald Trump said the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will be notifying physicians immediately that use of paracetamol “during pregnancy can be associated with a very increased risk of autism”.
“For this reason, they are strongly recommending that women limit [paracetamol] use during pregnancy unless medically necessary,” he said.
