Paramedic attendances have dropped significantly during the COVID-19 crisis, according to Ambulance Victoria.

Anecdotally, the number of cases attended by Victorian paramedics have fallen 30%, from around 1800-2000 each day to 1300-1400, says Mick Stephenson, MICA paramedic and Ambulance Victoria’s Executive Director of Clinical Operations.

And while the service was receiving around 200 calls per day from patients thought to have COVID-19, the large majority didn’t have the infection, he said.

“Demand for our services at Ambulance Victoria has decreased quite significantly over recent weeks,” he told a press briefing on Saturday.
