Patient scarfs 400 times recommended daily vitamin D: case
UPDATED: 7 July 2022 9.45am:
UK doctors are calling for greater regulation of OTC supplements in the wake of a case where a patient developed vitamin D intoxication after taking more than almost 400 times the recommended daily dose.
The middle-aged man had presented to their GP with a three-month history of recurrent vomiting, nausea, abdominal and leg pain and diarrhoea.
He also reported increased thirst, tinnitus and weight loss of nearly 13 kg, according to case author Dr Alamin Alkundi from the East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust and colleagues.
