Patients with broken legs told to wait at home for surgery: AMA WA

President Dr Andrew Miller is warning of 'dangerous' elective surgery delays with just 13 beds free for new patients in Perth earlier this week

WA’s hospital system is in crisis with elective surgeries being postponed and patients with broken limbs being told to wait at home for surgery, says the state's AMA (WA) president Dr Andrew Miller.

At one point on Tuesday, there were only 13 beds available for new patients across the entire Perth metropolitan area, Dr Miller said.

State Premier Mark McGowan announced on Wednesday elective procedures would be delayed indefinitely for category three and non-urgent category two
